Residents near the Kwai Shing Circuit site expressed shock at the loud crash but relief that the tower crane collapse at 4pm avoided the peak student and pedestrian traffic just an hour earlier.
Eyewitnesses described a deafening “bang” like a bomb or explosion.
Locals said the area is a daily route for school students, parents, minibuses, and buses.
A resident nearby surnamed Cheung called it “extremely lucky” no children were passing.
Another resident surnamed Law noted 3pm would have been catastrophic with heavy crowds.
Many described the timing as fortunate, preventing worse casualties.
