Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh will be celebrated with the Berlin International Film Festival's prestigious Honorary Golden Bear for lifetime achievement, marking her as the first Asian performer to claim the award in its 43-year history.
The announcement came on Friday from festival organizers, who hailed the 63-year-old Malaysian star's fearless versatility across four decades of groundbreaking roles—from action classics like Tomorrow Never Dies and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to her genre-defying triumph in Everything Everywhere All at Once and her upcoming turn in Wicked.
The honor will be presented at the festival's opening ceremony on February 12, 2026, with Yeoh confirming she will attend in person.
Festival director Tricia Tuttle praised Yeoh's boundary-breaking career for inspiring generations of filmmakers and audiences worldwide through its blend of commanding presence and bold artistic choices.
The star, who made history as the first Asian and Malaysian actor to win the Best Actress Oscar, expressed deep personal gratitude for the recognition from a festival that embraced her work early on, calling the return to Berlin profoundly meaningful.
