Hong Kong Customs intercepted a major shipment of counterfeit products last month, confiscating approximately 7,700 fake items, including sneakers, bags, and sports jerseys, with an estimated street value of HK$1.27 million.
The seizure occurred at the Tuen Mun River Trade Terminal Customs Cargo Examination Compound, where officers discovered the illicit goods hidden inside a 40-foot container arriving from mainland China.
Following a risk assessment operation conducted on August 13, customs inspectors targeted and examined the suspicious shipment.
Preliminary findings indicate the counterfeit products were destined for transshipment to overseas markets.
The case remains under active investigation.
Customs emphasized its ongoing commitment to combating counterfeit operations through rigorous risk assessment and intelligence-led operations, particularly targeting goods passing through the city’s busy transshipment hubs.
Under Hong Kong’s Trade Descriptions Ordinance, trafficking counterfeit goods carries severe penalties, including fines up to HK$500,000 and imprisonment for up to five years.
