Outdoor worker collapses and dies under heat in Wong Tai SIn

A 63-year-old outsourced worker died on Saturday morning after collapsing while cleaning leaves on a footbridge in Wong Tai Sin, amid Hong Kong’s extreme heat warning.

The incident occurred at 10.07am on a pedestrian bridge connecting Morse Park Swimming Pool and Ma Chai Hang Road Playground. 

The man, who was working on the bridge’s rooftop, suddenly felt unwell and lost consciousness. 

Colleagues immediately called for help, but he was pronounced dead after being rushed to United Hospital.

Police recovered the worker’s safety helmet, plastic bucket, and tools at the scene and are investigating the cause of death.

The Hong Kong Observatory had issued a Very Hot Weather Warning at 6.45am, with temperatures in Wong Tai Sin nearing 32 degrees at the time of the incident.
