Former Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung will serve as a thesis advisor for the Master's programs in Civil Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), which is not expected to give rise to any potential conflict of interest.
The appointment, effective this Friday (Aug 1), was reviewed by the Advisory Committee on Post-office Employment for Former Chief Executives and Politically Appointed Officials, which determined that Lam should adhere to specific restrictions the Committee has advised during his term.
In a statement published on Thursday, the Committee noted that it does not anticipate any adverse public perception resulting from the employment.
The Committee also advised that Lam should avoid using materials that cause well-founded negative public perception, embarrass the government, or disclose confidential information.
Meanwhile, Lam was appointed Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) after departing from the government last December.
The Committee had previously concluded in late April that the role would not lead to any potential conflict of interest.
