Following the recent visit of global superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, Hong Kong's football festival is set to continue with another major event, as the "RED on RED: Gerrard 11 vs Rio 11" legends match has been confirmed for the evening of October 18 at the Kai Tak Sports Park.
Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand will captain two teams of legendary players, reigniting one of the Premier League's most passionate rivalries and offering local fans a night of iconic football memories.
The event extends the wave of major footballing action coming to the newly developed Kai Tak Sports Park in 2025.
The organizer released a statement today confirming the event and unveiling the ticket price tiers.
Tickets will be priced at HK$999, HK$499, HK$399, with a dedicated fan zone at HK$899. Nearly 20,000 tickets will be available to the public for under HK$500, ensuring broad accessibility. Further details on the ticket sales schedule will be announced shortly.
The announcement confirmed the involvement of captains Gerrard and Ferdinand but did not yet provide the full roster of visiting stars.
The 45-year-old Gerrard, dubbed "Captain Fantastic," made over 500 appearances for Liverpool and famously led the club to an incredible comeback from 3-0 down to win the 2005 UEFA Champions League against AC Milan. He will be joined by several of his teammates from that historic "Miracle of Istanbul" squad.
While Gerrard visited Hong Kong with Liverpool in 2007 for the Premier League Asia Trophy, this will be his first time playing in the city since his retirement.
The Manchester United Legends team will be marshaled by 46-year-old Rio Ferdinand, a six-time Premier League winner and 2008 Champions League champion with the club.
Both Ferdinand and Gerrard were long-time teammates for the England national team and served as captains on various occasions.
This legends edition of the famed "North West Derby" is a Pulse football project, supported by the Hong Kong Football Association. Fans are advised to follow the official social media pages for the latest updates on player announcements and ticketing.
