From its history as one of the world's busiest and most challenging airports to its ongoing transformation into Hong Kong's premier sports and entertainment hub, a multi-faceted docu-series featuring Tang King-shing, the director (strategic planning) of Kai Tak Sports Park, is released.
The series explores key milestones, influential figures, and pivotal events behind this major development, highlighting how the project drives the mega event economy while ensuring community involvement in its long-term vision.
The guardian forever watching
During his 35-year career in the police force, Tang once served as the commander of the Kai Tak Airport Police District, forging an enduring bond with the land. After retirement, fate brought him back to Kai Tak, where he now dedicates himself to the Sports Park project.
“I believe this project is extremely important for the development of sports in Hong Kong,” said Tang.
He believes the park holds profound significance for Hong Kong’s sports development and public participation in athletics. “Kai Tak Sports Park is the largest and most versatile sports complex ever built in Hong Kong, its versatility allows it to meet global standards and is capable of hosting a wide range of international sporting events,” he mentions in the documentary.
Tang expresses great satisfaction in being able to continue contributing to Hong Kong even after retirement. To him, this is more than just a job, it serves as an extension of his sense of duty and emotional connection to the city.
It is this spirit of “never quitting” that embodies the driving force behind Hong Kong’s relentless progress.
Fostering sports development
The Park not only helps the government promote mass participation, elite sports, and a mega events economy, it also offers immense opportunities for Hongkongers, especially the younger generation, according to Tang.
People will be a part of the sports development in the city, as well as foster engagement with sports, whether it is as a spectator or active participant.
