Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu expressed pride and determination as the city prepares to co-host China's 15th National Games alongside Guangdong and Macau later this year - marking the first time the sporting mega-event will be jointly organized by the three jurisdictions.
In a social media post on Saturday (July 19), Lee described the historic collaboration as profoundly significant, noting it demonstrates the central government's strong trust in Hong Kong while deepening regional cooperation within the Greater Bay Area.
He said the national sports extravaganza “not only strengthens exchanges across various sectors in the Greater Bay Area and promotes high-quality regional development, but also reflects the nation's high confidence in Hong Kong.”
The Chief Executive emphasized Hong Kong's commitment to delivering exceptional events, urging citizens to wholeheartedly support the games scheduled for November and December.
The territory will simultaneously co-host the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th Special Olympics.
To showcase local enthusiasm, Lee visited an official merchandise store for the games, highlighting a specially designed "City Culture Badge" that incorporates Hong Kong's iconic architecture, landmarks and cultural elements.
One particular badge caught his attention - featuring the Kai Tak Sports Park alongside events Hong Kong will host, symbolizing the city's capability to leverage both its new sports infrastructure and experience in organizing major events.
"These designs perfectly capture Hong Kong's unique characteristics and urban charm," Lee remarked, adding that the integration of Kai Tak Sports Park imagery represents Hong Kong's readiness to excel in hosting its allocated competitions.
