China will maintain 'necessary' fiscal deficit and debt levels in 2026

China will keep the 2026 fiscal deficit and debt scale at levels deemed "necessary" and ensure an increase in the intensity of fiscal expenditure, Vice Finance Minister Liao Min said on Tuesday.

Liao said at a press conference the country will channel more fiscal funds toward supporting consumption, a sector that has been weak amid the ongoing property downturn.
