Behind the stage: Archival home tour reveals the hidden artisan world of Canto-pop's legend Roman Tam

Beyond a distinctive voice,  a resurfaced clip of late Cantopop legend Roman Tam Pak-sin’s private home is captivating the internet for his unique taste and craftsman skills.

The clip, recently featured in a TV programme, showcases an intimate tour of his former residence in Happy Valley. 

Spanning about 2,000-square-foot, the audience were  impressed by the elegant European-style decor, which was entirely chosen and personally crafted by the singer himself–a rarely seen artistic side.

Hosted by Cynthia Cheung Yuk-lai, the tour began in a bright, spacious living room adorned with antique wardrobes. 

As the duo walked into the bedroom, Tam introduced a unique pair of bedside lamps, which were in fact two floor vases he had drilled and fitted with light bulbs himself.

His artistic vision was further highlighted when the host mistook a vintage radio on a custom-made cabinet at the foot of his king-size bed for a family heirloom.

"I love buying things from old flea markets that suit my taste," he laughed and  explained, adding that the cabinet was originally made for a television, but he chose to listen to music before sleep instead.

The late icon then led the way to his study, which also served as his home office.

There, he showcased a pottery figure handcrafted by a famed craftsman from Shiwan, Foshan, alongside his collection of agate crystals and a jade set of zodiac animals.

The segment ended with a playful moment as Tam asked the host her zodiac sign, only to be met with the classic response, "A lady's age is a secret."

The viral resurgence of this footage has sparked fresh admiration for the late icon, capturing the interest of a new generation beyond his musical legacy.
