Hong Kong pop sensation Gloria Tang Tsz-kei, better known as G.E.M., broke into tears on stage during her world tour in Nanning on Saturday night as she felt overwhelmed by heartbreak over the fire that occurred in Tai Po on Wednesday.
She told her fans with tears and trembling voices that she had been going through a lot of sadness over the past couple of days.
“These past few days have been a very sad time for Hong Kong. I don’t know how many of you have been following the news,” she said.
Seeing this, fans immediately shouted “Don’t cry” and “Stay strong” to cheer her on.
“When I saw the news, I felt that many things happen on this planet everyday, but bringing the ‘I AM GLORIA’ tour to you in times like these is really about giving everyone strength,” she said.
G.E.M. also said that what she can do may be limited, but hoped the concert could bring strength to people’s lives through music and to encourage everyone facing difficulties.
“No matter whether you’re directly affected by the current disaster, or each of you is dealing with your own challenges in life, I just want to know that you are striving, staying positive, and living well,” she said.
Many fans commented online, praising G.E.M. as “beautiful inside and out” and joining in prayers for Hong Kong.
The 33-year-old singer-songwriter earlier announced a donation of HK$1 million for Tai Po fire relief.
