The Education Bureau has greenlit a pilot scheme allowing five well-established secondary schools to expand to five Form One classes each for the 2026 intake, responding to strong parental demand and healthy enrollment trends while capping the initiative to protect school ecosystems.
After evaluating facilities, track records, family preferences, citywide seat supply, and local demographics, authorities selected Christian Alliance S W Chan Memorial College, Queen’s College, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Kap Yan Directors' College, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Li Ka Shing College, and Wah Yan College, Hong Kong, to join the upcoming Secondary School Places Allocation with the additional class.
The bureau explained that the 2026 trial is restricted to these five institutions to address sector concerns over sustainable development.
Schools currently operating four classes that have consistently attracted at least as many self-nominated applications as available spots over the past three years—and whose premises can accommodate growth—will qualify to apply for the five-class option.
Officials pledged ongoing reviews and timely adjustments based on real-time outcomes.
