Guangdong governor Meng Fanli announced that the new Huanggang Port will put into operation this year, with efforts to accelerate yacht travel between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.
The fifth session of the 14th Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress kicked off yesterday with 729 delegates in attendance.
Meng outlined priorities for the year ahead, including strengthening scientific and technological innovation by connecting with resources in Hong Kong and Macau, and supporting the development of the Hetao area into an international hub for innovation.
Guangdong will also begin construction of the Guangzhou–Zhuhai (Macau) high-speed railway, complete and put into operation the new Huanggang Port.
He highlighted plans to deepen collaboration with Hong Kong and Macau in airport and port operations, accelerating the development of airports and seaports, and push freer yacht travel across the Greater Bay Area.
“Persistent efforts will drive the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, building a vibrant and internationally competitive first-class bay area and world-class city cluster,” Meng said.
