One dead after marine police couple crashes car into Iceland river

A couple, who both serve as officers in the Hong Kong Marine Police, was involved in a fatal car crash in Iceland on Tuesday (Sep 24) leaving one dead and the other severely injured.

It was learned that the 34-year-old victim was an officer posted to the Marine North Division while his 35-year-old wife, also a Marine officer, attached to the Marine Harbour Division and Marine Police Training School, suffered severe injuries.

Sources said the tragedy occurred at around 2 pm local time on Tuesday when the couple was driving in Skagaströnd and the car reared off the road and fell into a river.

The Immigration Department said Wednesday that it has received inquiries from the family and will provide the necessary assistance.
