In a recorded speech played during today’s opening ceremony, chief executive John Lee Ka-chiu praised the campaign as an excellent platform to promote the unique charisma of Chinese culture and foster cultural exchanges between East and West.
Lee also believes the campaign will bring another layer of joy in addition to the 27th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China.
Tang Ya, founder of organizer Tangya Arts Tech, said this event features some 3,000 performers from over 10 countries and regions including the mainland and Macau, ranging from four-year-old kids to an 82-year-old Japanese tai chi master and a 96-year-old Choy Li Fut martial artist.
She expects this event to amplify the cultural confidence and to tell good stories of Hong Kong and China, as well as demonstrate Hong Kong’s role as an exchange hub for Eastern and Western arts and cultures.
“I am most impressed by the young masters,” said Zhou, a tourist from Shenzhen. “They are so talented despite their young age.”
“Kungfu Baby,” a kindergartner martial arts demonstration, also drew much attention.
“This event provides a great opportunity for kids to learn the essence of Chinese culture,” a citizen said.
The tickets for the Gala Dance Performance at 7.45 pm on Friday, 3 pm and 7.45 pm on Saturday and Sunday are now available at urbtix.hk. All other programs are free of charge.
