In the function constituency race, he defeated Chu Lai-ling and Yip Cham-kai in the social welfare sector.
Speaking to reporters after the result announcement, he said he would make his best endeavors to monitor the government and fight for universal suffrage, even if that means going up against 89 others in Legco alone.
The election on Sunday also saw incumbents Felix Chung Kwok-pan and Christopher Cheung Wah-fung -- two Legco regulars -- fail to be elected.
Chung, leader of the Liberal Party who had represented the textiles and garment sector since 2012, was upset by Sunny Tan of the Federation of Industries. Cheung, of the Business and Professionals Alliance, fell to Robert Lee Wai-wang, chairman of the Hong Kong Securities Association, in financial services.
In the Heung Yee Kuk sector, Kenneth Lau Ip-keung -- chairman of Heung Yee Kuk -- was re-elected, finishing ahead of vice-chairman Mok Kam-kwai.
Apart from Lau, incumbents who were also elected include commercial sector’s Martin Liao Cheung-kong and Jeffrey Lam Kin-fung, Tommy Cheung Yu-yan of catering, Chan Chun-ying of finance, Steven Ho Chun-yu of agriculture and fisheries, Chan Kin-por of insurance, and Frankie Yick Chi Ming of transport.
Others include Lo Wai-kwok of engineering, Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen and Ng Wing-ka of industrial, Shiu Ka-fai of wholesale and retail, and Tony Tse Wai-chuen of architectural, surveying, planning and landscape.
Among the new faces are Hong Kong Olympic Committee vice-president Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, who defeated William So Wai-leung in sports, performing arts, culture and publication, Duncan Chiu in technology and innovation, and Perry Yiu Pak-leung in tourism.
Others include Chu Kwok-keung in education, Ambrose Lam San-keung in legal, Loong Hon-biu in real estate and construction, Kennedy Wong Ying-ho in import and export, Edmund Wong Chun-sek in accountancy, and Dennis Leung Tsz-wing, Chau Siu-chung and Kwok Wai-keung in the labor sector.
Meanwhile, other newly formed sectors also saw fresh blood joining Legco, including Medical Conscience’s David Lam Tzit-yuen in the medical and health services sector, Erik Yim Kong in commercial, and Chan Yung representing HKSAR deputies to the NPC.
