The Secretary for Food and Health, Sophia Chan Siu-chee, said at the Legislative Council today the government is studying the risks of quarantining people entering Hong Kong in hotels.
She was asked by Roundtable lawmaker Michael Tien Puk-sun why Hong Kong still allows entry for non-Hong Kong people when other countries are closing borders. He asked whether there are enough quarantine facilities and will the government consider quarantining students returning from overseas in hotels.
Chan also said the government is reserving quarantine centers for close contacts of infected patients and hence most people arrivals will be placed under mandatory home quarantine. But if they cannot provide a home address, it is safer to send them to quarantine centers.
