A private car crashed into a pedestrian refuge island in Tsim Sha Tsui early on Wednesday, causing no injuries, but the driver was arrested after failing a breathalyzer test, police said.
The incident occurred around 6am when the car, traveling along Chatham Road towards Tsim Sha Tsui, lost control near the junction with Austin Road and mounted the central pedestrian refuge island. No pedestrians were at the crossing at the time.
The car's front end was severely damaged, with the bumper torn off and debris scattered across the road. Police said the driver had left the scene briefly after the accident but later returned to assist with the investigation.
