Nobel physics laureate Samuel Ting Chao-chung has been appointed as honorary director of the Lingnan University Institute for Advanced Study. In 1974, Ting led an experiment that discovered a new form of matter, known as the J Particle. This discovery contradicted the prevailing theory of the basic building blocks of nature and was known as the November Revolution. Two years later, he received the Nobel Prize.
The university awarded the 88-year-old American physicist an honorary doctorate in science, and last year he visited the Tuen Mun campus to lecture students on his ongoing space experiments during assembly.
