Some 7,500 households living in subdivided flats in Sham Shui Po were given air purifiers developed by Lingnan University on National Day.
The air purifier, PureAura, could significantly improve indoor air quality and the level of fine inhalable particles (PM2.5) in residences could be lowered to the World Health Organization standard, according to the university.
It added that the air purifier could improve the quality of life for subdivided flat residents in the long term, as it can improve respiratory health and mental health. "The Lingnan University research team is encouraged that its creative design and professional knowledge could be developed into a humane invention that improves people's livelihoods," said Albert Ko Wing-yin, director of Lingnan Entrepreneurship Initiative.
He added that the university looks forward to enhancing cooperation with the government and non-profit organizations to help grassroots citizens, which allows students to transform knowledge into solutions.
