The Peak Tram is returning next Saturday, with an upgraded sixth-generation train after its operation was suspended for more than a year.
The trams, which were launched in 1888, have had a HK$799 million upgrade, with all haulage, control, signaling system and track rails renewed. The new trams will carry more passengers.
They will have a new waiting area that holds up to 1,300 people. Five exhibition halls will be set up at the waiting area, showing a sculpture of the creator, Lindy Lee, and the history of the trams. "The Peak Tram has always been a must-see attraction and with this upgrade project, we believe we have taken it to the next level and it can take its place among the world's best visitor experiences," said Martyn Sawyer, group director of Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, the mother company of the Peak Tramways Company.
A "Thank You HK Pass" will be launched with discounted tickets at HK$24 to HK$99. A "Super Fans Pack" at HK$428 will include a thermal bottle, canvas bag and notebook.
