Legislator Michael Tien Puk-sun asked Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor to give him a present for his 71st birthday yesterday - one that he could share with about two million other senior citizens. Tien wants Lam to order authorities to organize a third jab against the coronavirus.
And while it wouldn't be a present they would enjoy exactly, it could be the gift of life for some among them.

Telling of a meeting with Lam as he advanced into his seventies, Tien actually had 11 items on his birthday wish list. They included a renewed push to get people to go for a first anti-Covid shot, rent controls on subdivided units, a mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse cases, a lowering to 60 of the age to qualify for health-care vouchers, and remedial action on long waiting times for government drug allergy tests .
But his big wish was for another jab.
