From a paper document to a smart and durable piece of polycarbonate, the Hong Kong Identity Card has undergone major technological developments since the first one was issued in 1949.The exhibition runs Monday to Friday (9am-5.45pm) except on public holidays at the Exhibition Hall on the second floor of the Hong Kong Public Records Building in Kwun Tong. Admission is free.
And if you want to see how the one you should have in your wallet or pocket came to be like it is there's a simple and interesting way: visit the annual exhibition "Identity Card - A Timeless Proof" that opens today at the Public Records Office.

There are 70 exhibits including all generations of ID cards and the equipment used in their production. There are also pictures of people posing for the photos to go on their ID cards.
