Firework excitement fizzles with arrestCentral Station | 25 Feb 2021
Celebrations turned sour for a 30-year-old man after he was arrested for setting off fireworks in Tseung Kwan O on the last day of the Lunar New Year holidays.
Police said they received multiple reports from citizens on February 15 that people were setting off fireworks on Chi Shin Street in Tseung Kwan O.
After viewing the CCTV records, officers have their eyes on five suspects, with one being the suspect arrested on Tuesday.
It is understood that he is the liquor license holder of a Thai restaurant, Thai Cool, in the district, and his younger sister is the operator of the restaurant.
Officers said the place where the man set off fireworks was near a residential area in the district, which could have put citizens' safety and property at risk.
The Summary Offences Ordinance says wantonly or negligently setting off fireworks may result in a HK$500 fine or three months' imprisonment upon conviction.
