Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu called for enhanced operational mechanisms at Kai Tak Sports Park, following concerns over subpar arrangements since its opening earlier this month.
"I have requested the sports park management to strengthen mechanism building, including establishing a regular meeting system," Lee said.
Lee also urged the park's operator to set up an emergency response mechanism to handle unexpected incidents and improve decision-making processes. "Management must fully understand on-the-ground issues at the venues and ensure that decisions are effectively implemented."
To enhance transparency, Lee called for the appointment of spokesmen to promptly communicate with the public on any issues and their resolutions.Separately, Lee stressed the need for better coordination between Hong Kong and mainland authorities to allow private vehicles to use multiple border crossings.
"Of course, it is convenient for drivers to use different crossings, but we must ensure smooth traffic flow at each checkpoint," Lee said. "Without proper regulation, some more convenient crossings could face severe congestion, which could spill over into urban areas."Currently, private cars with dual license plates are restricted to specific ports for travel between Hong Kong and the mainland while certain taxis and cross-boundary buses have been allowed to use multiple crossings since 2023.
Lee said authorities will study ways to improve traffic management at border crossings and work closely with mainland counterparts to monitor the situation and explore solutions.
