About two-third of Hong Kong Sevens tickets, or nearly 27,000, have been sold after the public ticket sales started on December 1, as the tournament will be held at Hong Kong Stadium for the last time from April 5 to 7 next year before it moves to the new Kai Tak Sports Park in 2025.
Hong Kong Sevens has been held at the Hong Kong Stadium since 1994, making it one of the stadium's most iconic major events. However, the 2024 Hong Kong Sevens, which is already on sale online, will be the last edition held at Hong Kong Stadium. It will move to the new Kai Tak Sports Park starting in 2025. Ticket sales started on December 1, and as of Wednesday, 26,892 tickets have been sold, over 65 percent of Hong Kong Stadium's 40,000 capacity.
"We are excited to be launching a new era of the Cathay HSBC Hong Kong Sevens at what promises to be an iconic stadium in its own right at Kai Tak in 2025, but most importantly we are busy preparing to say farewell to the Hong Kong Stadium in true Hong Kong Sevens style in April 2024," said Chris Brooke, chairman of Hong Kong Rugby Union.
Brooke also said he is looking forward to putting up the 'sold out' sign outside the stadium for the first time since the pandemic. Since 1994, Hong Kong Stadium has hosted 30 editions of the Hong Kong Sevens and two Rugby World Cup Sevens tournaments.
"Tournament weekends at Hong Kong Stadium have made 'See you at the Sevens' a part of the rugby world's lexicon. We assume that fans will not want to miss this finale and we encourage interested spectators to act quickly to secure their presence as we salute the stadium for the last time," Brooke said.
Three-day ticket holders can watch 74 exciting rugby sevens matches featuring 30 world-class teams, enjoying non-stop entertainment over the three days. Adult three-day tickets are priced at HK$1,950, plus a HK$88.5 handling fee.
A child ticket for ages 12 and below can be purchased at HK$950 each, plus a HK$39 handling fee and are sold on a first come, first served basis. Free entry for children aged two or below.
Tickets are available via the official website at www.hksevens.com and authorized ticketing platform Klook.
Currently all ticketing platforms are only selling three-day packages and not offering single-day tickets.
This year's Hong Kong Sevens, between March 31 and April 2, saw a total turnout of 75,000 over the three days with all pandemic restrictions being lifted. Both the men's and women's titles were won by New Zealand, while Hong Kong finished 13th.
