The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) will introduce a trial reservation system for the Po Pin Chau Section of the High Island Geo Trail at the High Island Reservoir East Dam in Sai Kung.
The measure will be in effect on weekends, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the National Day Golden Week from September 5 to October 7.
Designed to better manage visitor numbers and improve crowd control, the reservation requirement applies strictly to the Po Pin Chau Section.
Other areas of the High Island Reservoir East Dam will remain open to the public without any booking restrictions, and all reservations during this trial phase will be completely free of charge.
Anyone planning to hike the Po Pin Chau Section between 9am and 5pm on the designated dates must secure a reservation in advance.
The visiting hours will be split into two-hour sessions, with a maximum capacity of 500 people per session and a total limit of 2,000 visitors per day. Slots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The reservation rule applies to weekends and key holidays, specifically covering September 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 25 to 27, and October 1 to 7.
Outside of these specified dates and the 9am to 5pm window, no advance booking is required. The booking system is scheduled to go live at 11am on Monday, initially accepting bookings for the opening weekend of September 5 and 6.
Following the launch, the system will open every subsequent Monday at 11am to take bookings for the following weekend or Golden Week period.
To secure a slot, hikers must complete a real-name registration process through the Klook platform, which can be accessed via their official website, mobile app, or WeChat mini-program. Each registrant is permitted to book up to five slots per transaction for themselves and their companions.
Successful applicants will receive an e-voucher with a QR code via email, which can also be retrieved directly within the Klook app or WeChat mini-program. If plans change, bookings can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before the scheduled time slot.
Upon arrival at the entrance of the Po Pin Chau Section, visitors must present their valid e-voucher QR code along with a personal identification document to staff for verification. If a session is not fully booked, walk-in visitors will be allowed to make an immediate electronic booking on-site.
The AFCD will also set up a dedicated service counter at the trail entrance to assist with entry verification and handle general visitor inquiries.
