Chinese tech giant Huawei is to pay 71.95 billion yuan (HK$82 billion) in dividends for last year to its current and retired employees in its employee shareholder scheme.
That is around 505,569 yuan on average for each of the 142,315 eligible workers in the scheme. The virtually restricted stock dividend is 1.61 yuan per share, up from 1.58 yuan in 2021. The share price after the payout will be 7.85 yuan.
Since Huawei is not a publicly listed company, it adopts a model where employees hold 100 percent of the shares. Dividends, along with salaries and bonuses, are a crucial part of employees' incomes.
In 2022, the company posted a net profit of 35.6 billion yuan - down to about two-thirds of net profits from 2021, with one of the main reasons being due to a sharp decline of its smartphone business.
