Showcasing youth creativity on national security at the NStudio Marketing Proposal Competition

To safeguard national security and cultivate national identity, the Hong Kong National Security Law was implemented six years ago , marking a milestone to secure a steady and enduring "One Country, Two Systems" in Hong Kong. This year, to promote the message “national security is our shared responsibility”, the “Nsynergy National Security Awareness Campaign” was launched by the National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force. A key event was the “NStudio Marketing Proposal Competition” that encourages young people to unleash their creativity in promoting national security.

“NStudio Marketing Proposal Competition” was organized by the National Security Department, with support from the Security Bureau, the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau, the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, and Sing Tao News Corporation Limited. It consisted of four categories – Primary, Junior Secondary, Senior Secondary, and Youth Uniformed Groups. The theme for the Primary School category was to design souvenirs to promote national security, while for the Secondary School and Youth Uniformed Groups categories was to develop plans to promote national security. In the first stage, participants have to write creative plans on the 20 major fields to promote national security. Teams shortlisted for the second stage have to produce short videos, and finalist teams have to prepare presentations. At each stage, workshops were held by the organizers to equip students with relevant skills.

The competition took place last December with a participation of over 320 teachers and students from 80 primary and secondary schools, along with 16 uniformed teams, totalling 154 teams vying for the champion, first runner-up, second runner-up and merit awards. Teachers of the champion, first runner-up, and second runner-up also received a Best Advisor Award. Special awards included the Best Video Production for National Security Proposal, Best Proposal Presentation, Most Creative Proposal, Most Effective Proposal in Promoting National Security, Best Technology Application, and Most Active Participating School. After selection by an adjudication panel comprising community leaders, national security education tutors, members of the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers and the Police Force, the awards presentation ceremony was held on 23 June at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre.

“National Security Cat Blind Box” rides on cat culture and game cards

With their “National Security Cat Blind Box”, the team from Yaumatei Catholic Primary School (Hoi Wang Road) secured their position as Champion of the Primary School Category and winner of the Best Video Production for National Security Proposal. Their teacher also received a Best Advisor Award. The team transformed the local love for cats into mascots and combined it with the popular blind box toys and five local cultural elements to design five National Security Cat and 20 National Security Game Cards with surprise editions featuring Andy the panda. Players have to correctly answer 10 national security questions before getting a blind box which adds to the fun.

“Unlock the Mysteries of National Security” blends party games with virtual reality

The team at St. Paul’s Convent School (Secondary Division) used a virtual escape game in which players must solve national security puzzles to escape. The game includes an interactive zone to facilitate communication and cooperation among players. The team suggested organizing carnival events to attract new players, with rewards for successful recruitments.

Top-ranking players for the week will advance to the finals to compete in a murder mystery game. The team suggested promoting the game through pre-sales on social media platforms and distributing flyers in schools and community centers.

In addition to winning the Junior Secondary School Champion, the team also won the Best Proposal Presentation Award, and their teacher also received a Best Advisor Award.

The team from AD&FD POHL Leung Sing Tak College proposed launching a “National Security Teen Talent Bus” to promote national security knowledge around the city. The upper deck of the bus will promote cultural security and features a Scented Sachet Workshop where participants learn about Chinese herbal spices, and a Donkey Roll Workshop to make this traditional Beijing imperial pastry. The lower deck will display information on endangered marine species to highlight the importance of ecological security.

In addition, the team also suggested organizing “National Security Teen Talent Carnivals” in different districts, in which game booths will be designed by secondary school students, and visitors can collect stamps to redeem gifts. The team won the champion of the Secondary School category and their instructors also received the Best Advisor Award.

Protect personal privacy against online scams: stay calm and verify facts!

The champion of the Youth Uniform Groups category, Lau (劉佳欣) is a member of the Tsuen Wan District Junior Police Call.  In addition to an online campaign, she proposed holding an “All-City National Security Little Guardians Cybersecurity Action Day” in different districts of Hong Kong to promote cybersecurity and personal data protection. Her instructor also received a Best Advisor Award.
