Following last year’s counterfeit bottled water controversy, the Government Logistics Service awarded a new contract on March 17 to Swire Coca-Cola for supplying Bonaqua bottled water to Hong Kong Island and outlying islands government departments.
The contract covers 1.4645 million bottles at a delivered price of HK$31.9285 million.
New tender requirements include a proven 10-year market share, at least 50 sales channels with a minimum of 20 retail outlets, a daily delivery capacity of over 100 orders, food importer qualification for imported water, safety test reports, financial vetting and performance bonds for contracts over HK$15 million, plus on-site inspections.
Swire Coca-Cola previously won a 2023 tender to supply bottled water to Kowloon government offices.
The scandal emerged when a HK$52.9 million contract with Shenzhen-based Xin Ding Xin was terminated in June after the alleged manufacturer denied any connection, raising suspicions of false claims about the water's origin.
