Hong Kong will experience a noticeable diurnal temperature range on Thursday (Mar 12), with cooler conditions expected over the weekend before temperatures gradually rise again next week.
The Hong Kong Observatory said a dry northeast monsoon will bring generally fine weather to southern China, with temperatures in the city ranging from a low of 17 degrees to a high of 24 degrees.
According to the Observatory’s regional forecast, Sheung Shui is expected to experience an even larger temperature swing, with temperatures dropping to 15 degrees overnight before rising to 27 degrees during the day—marking a 12-degree difference.
A strong replenishment of the monsoon will affect the coast of Guangdong from Friday to early Saturday, bringing cooler weather to the region.
The Observatory’s nine-day forecast shows temperatures on Friday and Saturday ranging from 16 degrees to 21 degrees, narrowing the daily temperature difference to around five degrees.
The weather watchdog added that as the monsoon gradually moderates, temperatures across the region will rise from early to midweek next week, reaching around 25 degrees by March 20.
Northern districts such as Sheung Shui and Ta Kwu Ling could see daytime highs of up to 27 degrees.
