China's slight adjustment to its growth target for next year is both reasonable and attainable, said Deputy Director of the Population, Resources, and Environment Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Karson Choi Ka-tsan.
Choi noted that despite a turbulent external environment and clear signs of strong supply but weaker domestic demand, China still achieved 5 percent economic growth last year, for which he feels encouraged.
He said a slight adjustment to the expected growth range for this year is reasonable and also an achievable target.
Choi added that this year marks the beginning of the national 15th Five-Year Plan, which clearly pointed out support for Hong Kong and Macau to better integrate into the country’s overall development.
He said the central government’s deepening and upgrading of Hong Kong's role will provide clearer strategic guidance and more specific implementation paths for Hong Kong.
He also expressed hope that the HKSAR government will strengthen coordination and align with the 15th Five-Year Plan, creating a systematic policy framework suited to Hong Kong’s needs.
With Hong Kong's close global ties, Choi urged the city to tell the good stories of China and the Hong Kong SAR more effectively to attract more visitors and investment.
