A 51-year-old man was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of common assault after two separate incidents at a shopping centre in Tsing Yi, including throwing bread at a shop assistant and allegedly pushing an elderly man.
Police received two reports around 7.09am on Thursday at Cheung Ching Estate. According to information, the first incident occurred at a bakery where a man in a black coat, after purchasing two loaves, placed them on a dim sum table instead of the checkout counter. A verbal dispute ensued with staff, and the man reportedly threw the bread at a female assistant before leaving.
The second report involved an elderly man who was allegedly pushed by the same suspect on a podium at the same shopping centre. The elderly man left the scene on his own.
Online videos show the suspect surrounded by police outside the bakery, with officers warning him to cooperate. At one point, police cautioned him that touching an officer could lead to an assault charge.
Following investigation, officers concluded the same Chen surnamed man was involved in both incidents and arrested him. The case is being handled by the relevant district police unit.
