Flat fire in Tseung Kwan O, 150 residents evacuated

A fire broke out at a high-floor flat in Hau Tak Estate in Tseung Kwan O on Sunday night, prompting the evacuation of about 150 residents.

Police received reports of the blaze at Tak Yue House around 9pm, with thick smoke billowing from the unit. Firefighters arrived and deployed one hose line and a breathing apparatus team, quickly extinguishing the flames.

According to initial information, the householder reported to police that his bed suddenly caught fire. He later complained of discomfort.

Online footage showed fierce flames leaping from the windows of the affected unit, with explosions heard at one point.

All evacuated residents were able to safely leave the building on their own. No injuries have been reported.
