2 arrested in Wong Tai Sin with $56,000 drugs in taxi

Police arrested two men and seized drugs with an estimated street value of HK$56,000 during an anti-narcotics operation in Wong Tai Sin on Thursday.

Officers from the district's anti-triad unit stopped a suspicious taxi near Hang Chun House, Cheung Hang Estate, in the afternoon.

A search of the vehicle uncovered about 78 suspected etomidate-infused e-cigarette cartridges, 25 packets containing roughly 35 grams of suspected cocaine, and 34 packets containing about 23.6 grams of suspected ketamine.

Following a preliminary investigation, the 31-year-old male driver, surnamed Leung, and a 17-year-old male passenger were arrested on suspicion of "trafficking in dangerous drugs."

Both are being detained. The case is being handled by the Wong Tai Sin anti-triad unit.

Police reiterated that drug trafficking is a serious offence under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, with a maximum penalty of a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.
