Chores turn chaotic as siblings trade blows with broom and fishing rod in Tin Shui Wai

A late-night argument over household chores spiraled wildly out of control in Tin Shui Wai early Thursday, when a brother and sister allegedly turned everyday cleaning tools into weapons, leaving both injured and under arrest.

Police said the incident occurred at around 2am at a unit in Shui Kwok House of Tin Shui Estate. The Vietnamese siblings, both Hong Kong identity card holders in their 40s, reportedly began arguing over domestic chores before the dispute escalated into physical violence.

During the confrontation, the 40-year-old sister allegedly attacked her 43-year-old brother using her hands, a fishing rod and a broom. The brother reportedly retaliated with his hands. 

The sister sustained head injuries, while the brother suffered injuries to his head, neck, back, hands and legs.

Police and fire services were called to the scene, and both injured parties were conscious when taken to Tin Shui Wai Hospital for treatment.

Following preliminary investigations, the sister was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, while the brother was arrested on suspicion of wounding. Both remain in custody for further investigation.
