New Territories South traffic police issue 73 tickets, arrest three in two-day lorry crackdown
New Territories South traffic police issued 73 fixed penalty tickets and summonses and arrested three drivers during a two-day crackdown on lorry violations on Monday and Tuesday.
The operation, codenamed "Airchain," targeted offences including overloading, speeding, using mobile phones while driving and unstable loads. Officers issued 16 vehicle defect notices and impounded eight lorries suspected of serious defects.
Three local male drivers, aged 26 to 36, were arrested for driving overloaded vehicles and failing to pay court fines.
Police said overloading, speeding, unstable loads and defective vehicles pose high risks of serious accidents and endanger other road users. Convicted offenders face a maximum fine of HK$10,000 and one year's imprisonment.
The force vowed continued strict enforcement against behaviour endangering road safety.
