A high-speed train arriving from Futian emitted smoke and a burning smell at West Kowloon Station on Thursday morning, prompting a response from firefighters.
The incident occurred around 10:20am when staff noticed smoke rising from beneath a "Vibrant Express" train that had just arrived and was preparing for its next northbound journey. A distinct burning plastic odor was detected, suspected to be from an overheated component or electrical fault.
Firefighters and ambulances were dispatched but found the smoke had dissipated quickly with no fire or need for major evacuation.
MTR confirmed the train was scheduled to depart for Futian when the smoke appeared. Staff activated contingency measures, and the train will return to the depot for inspection.
A backup train was arranged to carry affected passengers, or they could take the next service to Futian. Other services operated normally.
