A 31-year-old woman lost over HK$1.9 million in a week after being lured into a fake website through Xiaohongshu to boost sales for commissions, police said on Monday.
The victim transferred the money to designated accounts after meeting the scammer on the social media platform. She realized she was deceived when she could not withdraw the principal and payment and the scammer cut contact.
In the past three weeks, police received over 110 online job scam reports involving more than HK$19 million. They warned the public to be wary of jobs requiring no experience or resume, or offering advance payments for commissions.
