Final call: Captain Japanese & Korean Restaurant turns off grills at last standing Tai Po branch next year

Amid a challenging market, the city is losing an affordable dining option as the budget yakiniku chain Captain Japanese & Korean Restaurant announced a full closure.

The restaurant confirmed the closure on its Facebook page yesterday, stating that its last Tai Po location would cease operation on January 4, 2026, due to lease expiration. 

With the bittersweet note that "all things must come to an end," the restaurant thanked its supporters and held out hope for a return in a new and improved service in the future.

Once popular for affordable all-you-can-eat Korean and Japanese-style barbecue and hotpot buffets starting at HK$88, the chain previously operated branches in Yuen Long, Kwun Tong, and Tsuen Wan.

Despite efforts to revitalize the business, Captain Japanese & Korean Restaurant faced the grim reality of shutting down three branches this year.
