HAD refutes claims that Care Teams paused meal service for Christmas and New Year

The Home Affairs Department (HAD) on Saturday clarified that online rumors blaming the Shek Kip Mei Sub-district Care Team for temporarily halting meal deliveries over the Christmas and New Year period are untrue.

In a post on social media yesterday, the department addressed recent online claims that the F04 Shek Kip Mei Sub-district Care Team would suspend its meal distribution service from December 22 to January 4 next year, supposedly to celebrate the holidays. The department stated that the allegations are false.

The meal service in question is organized by the Shek Kip Mei Kai-Fong Welfare Association with support from the Food Angel charity kitchen and is distributed by the Shek Kip Mei Estate Resident Service Centre. The arrangement has no connection to the Sub-district Care Team.

As with previous long holidays, the central kitchen of Food Angel does not supply meal boxes during public holidays, and demand typically drops around festive periods.

The service is therefore paused during this time.

The Resident Service Centre marks the available dates clearly on meal cards so recipients can plan ahead.

Although the centre serves as the contractor for the local Care Team, the meal distribution is part of its regular community programme.

The department stressed that all 455 Care Teams across Hong Kong's 18 districts will continue to deliver care and support according to local needs, ensuring warmth and assistance reach the community as usual.
