Mainland man arrested for suspected theft on Indonesia-Hong Kong flight

Airport police detained a 50-year-old mainland Chinese man on Thursday after he allegedly took a female passenger's waist bag from an overhead compartment and tried to open it.

The incident occurred on a flight arriving from Indonesia yesterday, with another passenger spotting the act and alerting the victim.

Officers from the Airport District responded, arresting the suspect for theft.

He remains in custody as the case is investigated by the district's criminal investigation team.

Police urged passengers to stay vigilant in the cabin, lock bags, keep valuables on their person, especially when leaving seats, and check belongings before disembarking.

They reminded them that theft carries a maximum 10-year jail term.
