Chairman of the China Disabled Persons’ Federation Cheng Kai has praised Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) for its world-class barrier-free facilities, saying they create a positive environment for advancing the development of parasports.
Cheng made the remarks during a visit to the park on Saturday, which coincided with the boccia competitions of the 2025 National Games for Persons with Disabilities of China being held at the Kai Tak Arena.
Leading a delegation from the federation, Cheng toured the Main Stadium and was briefed on the park’s barrier-free design and accessibility features by Tang King-shing, Director of KTSP in strategic planning.
Tang said the park’s design and planning fully considered the diverse needs of different users under the principle of universal design, with facilities exceeding statutory requirements in multiple aspects to enhance accessibility.
Following the visit, Cheng commended the park’s facilities and supporting amenities, highlighting their important role in promoting the regional and international development of sports for persons with disabilities.
He said the park provides a favorable environment for the growth of parasports and carries significant meaning in promoting equal participation among people with disabilities.
KTSP’s three main venues collectively offer more than 600 wheelchair spaces and 600 companion seats. The park is also equipped with tactile guide paths, braille maps, induction loop systems, and FM systems in spectator areas to improve the auditory experience for hearing aid users.
In addition, the facilities include more than 100 accessible restrooms and 32 accessible shower rooms, enabling persons with disabilities to participate in sports activities safely and comfortably.
Outdoor areas feature gentle slopes, while the venues are fitted with baby care rooms, low-height service counters, barrier-free elevators, and automatic doors to comprehensively meet the needs of users with diverse abilities.
KTSP said it will continue to work closely with different sectors to promote the use of accessible sports facilities and support more parasports events and international competitions in Hong Kong.
