Police will soon begin removing external scaffolding and netting from all seven fire-damaged blocks at Wang Fuk Court to check for any remaining human remains, Commissioner of Police Joe Chow Yat-ming announced Tuesday, marking the start of the investigation’s third phase.
Although earlier drone inspections of the scaffolding found nothing significant, officers want to conduct a thorough physical search.
The unaffected Wang Chi House will also have its external scaffolding and polystyrene panels stripped first, in coordination with the Housing Department, before any decision on unsealing the building.
Safety remains the top priority.
Structural engineers will then assess whether the seven heavily damaged towers need reinforcement or other work.
Separately, fire-related scam reports rose by one to 21 cases, with two arrests so far.
Since launching dedicated hotlines last week, police have received 520 photos and 412 video clips from 79 members of the public to aid the investigation.
