The Law Society of Hong Kong has mobilized more than 100 volunteer lawyers and another 100 support staff to offer immediate free legal advice to residents affected by the deadly Wang Fuk Court blaze, with pop-up clinics already operating in three nearby transitional housing projects.
Expressing profound sorrow over the tragedy, Law Society president Roden Tong extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the wider community.
Since Thursday, emergency consultation counters have been running at Lok Sin Village, Good House and Trackside Villas, providing face-to-face preliminary advice on issues ranging from insurance claims and compensation to estate administration, tenancy matters, mortgage problems and personal injury.
By 4.30pm yesterday, the on-site teams had handled 21 cases.
In addition, a dedicated free legal hotline launched last Thursday has fielded dozens of inquiries, with 48 cases referred to volunteer lawyers for follow-up, mostly concerning insurance and rental disputes.
More than 460 volunteer lawyers and 300 telephone operators have signed up to keep the service running.
The Law Society pledged to continue standing shoulder-to-shoulder with victims and the community throughout this period of collective grief, ensuring timely and appropriate legal support is available to those in need.
