The Primary Healthcare Commission announced on Thursday the establishment of a family doctor free consultation program to support residents affected by the Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po, with over 140 doctors participating.
The Commission said that the District Health Centres (DHC) in all 18 districts have arranged case managers to address the needs of affected residents. They will match patients with private family doctors providing free consultations or the Family Medicine Out-patient Services under the Hospital Authority.
Residents can receive up to three free consultations arranged through DHC from now until February 28.
Services include prescribing drugs, necessary medication refills based on medical history, follow-up on trauma related to the fire such as respiratory diseases and help relieve the stress and anxiety.
The Commission said more than 140 private doctors have participated in the program, covering 170 service points which include four private hospitals.
Residents with medical needs may contact any DHC or visit in person to seek assistance, regardless of their residence location. DHC members can also contact their respective centers directly. Hotlines are listed on the websites of the Commission and DHC.
HA has previously announced full medical fee waivers for affected residents which include the family medicine outpatient services. DHC has already arranged more than 300 consultations so far.
In addition to matching consultation services, DHC will also offer personalized case management for affected residents including coordinating follow-up appointments, medication replenishment, referrals for specialized medical, nursing and medication services, as well as psychological support.
Residents can register through the hotline without visiting in person. Operators of emergency transitional housing and social workers from the Social Welfare Department can also assist in referring residents in need to DHC.
The Commission is also coordinating Chinese medicine free consultation services through the Chinese Medicine Unit of the Health Bureau, with details to be announced later.
