Athletes from Guangdong, including diving starlet Quan Hongchan, posted heartfelt messages of condolences to support the victims of the devastating fire in Tai Po.
Quan, dressed in black, expressed her condolences in the video.
“I felt deeply sad seeing the news about the fire in Hong Kong these past few days. I want you to know that I care deeply for you all. I understand this is a challenging time, but please don’t be afraid or give up.”
“Just like when I face challenges in training, if you persevere and don’t back down, you will surely overcome,” she added.
Synchronised swimmer Wang Liuyi, who is studying at the Education University of Hong Kong, shared her concern.
Her twin sister, Wang Qianyi, added, “I hope all of you can soon emerge from this hardship and get your lives back on track. May warmth accompany you in the days ahead. Hong Kong, stay strong, we stand with you.”
“As students in Hong Kong, we consider the city our second home, and we deeply empathize with its joy and sorrow,” they added.
A number of Chinese institutions based in Hong Kong, as well as mainland enterprises, have actively contributed to the relief effort.
China Resources has mobilized emergency supplies of mats, water and food, while China Merchants Group has established a special charity fund.
The China Travel Service has prepared hotel and apartment rooms for those affected, and China Mobile has initiated emergency communication support with a 24-hour service hotline.
A donation ceremony was held in Rongjiang, Guizhou, where locals expressed their gratitude, recalling how Hong Kong provided support during this year’s floods.
