The Hong Kong team advanced to the final of the 4x100 meters medley relay on Thursday, as multiple preliminaries for the swimming events at the 15th National Games concluded in Shenzhen.
The team clocked a time of 3:54.11 in the preliminaries, finishing third in their heat and sixth overall. They secured their place in the final, which will take place at 8.40pm tonight.
The four athletes, including Ralph Koo Yat-ho, Nicholas Cheung Chi-kit, Li Sum-yiu, and Cindy Cheung Sum-yuet, expressed their happiness at advancing to the final.
Li mentioned that the lineup was only finalized on Wednesday and that they had no clear performance expectations, believing qualification for the final was a pleasant surprise.
Cindy Cheung added that she felt strained during the latter part of the preliminary race and hopes to swim faster in the final.
Separately, in the women's 200-meter butterfly, Yeung Hoi-ching advanced to the semifinals with a time of 2:12.79, ranking 10th overall. Her teammate, Mathis Mya Lynn, finished 44th with a time of 2:20.21 and did not qualify.
All Hong Kong athletes were eliminated in the preliminaries of the men's 100-meter freestyle and the semifinals of the men's 200-meter individual medley.
