The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has obtained arrest warrants for two former insurance company staff members in connection with an insurance commission fraud case involving a police sergeant.
The anti-graft watchdog earlier charged six individuals, including the sergeant, for allegedly recruiting family members, friends, and fellow officers to pose as dummy insurance agents and policyholders.
They are accused of submitting insurance applications containing false information and paying premiums to deceive insurance companies, defrauding them of about HK$3 million in commissions, bonuses, and allowances.
The case was referred to the District Court on Thursday, with a plea hearing scheduled for the end of November.
At the ICAC’s request, a Magistrate also issued warrants for the arrest of two other suspects who have reportedly left Hong Kong.
The wanted individuals are Ng Ho-lun, 35, former regional director of Sun Life Hong Kong Limited, and former senior branch manager of China Taiping Life Insurance (Hong Kong) Company Limited; and Kuzca Chik Sin-deon (formerly known as Pan Chik Ka-tung), 35, a former insurance agent of Sun Life Hong Kong.
Both face a total of 21 charges — 20 counts of fraud and one count of conspiracy to make false instruments.
The ICAC said it launched the investigation following corruption allegations involving police personnel, which subsequently led to the discovery of the insurance commission fraud scheme.
After obtaining legal advice from the Department of Justice, the ICAC proceeded to prosecute eight individuals connected to the case.
