Police are investigating a suspected animal cruelty case after six dogs were found dead in Kwu Tung on Wednesday evening.
Officers responded to a report around 6:30pm from a man who returned to his residence on Kwu Tung South Road and discovered multiple pet dogs deceased, suspected of being poisoned.
Police located six dog corpses near a reservoir adjacent to the property. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department personnel attended the scene and deemed the incident suspicious. The dog bodies were removed for laboratory testing.
The case has been classified as "cruelty to animals" and assigned to the Border District crime squad for investigation. No arrests have been made so far.
This isn't the first suspected dog poisoning incident in the Kwu Tung area. In April, a male villager in Sheung Shui who kept over ten dogs reported four of his pets dead and two missing, suspected of being poisoned. The SPCA investigation found the incident suspicious and removed the dog corpses for testing.
The owner revealed that 22 of his dogs were poisoned to death last year, and a Labrador was found with its throat slit near a reservoir the previous year, suggesting repeated targeted attacks against dogs in the district.
